Adobe Reader 3.1 is also on the CD, in case you are installing to a really old retro PC, which does not already have a PDF reader.

For Simon and Simon II you have to install the game first to gain access to the manual.

No paper manuals are present, but they are all available on the CD in PDF format. A registration card is included, and the inner side of the sleeve advertises other games by Idigicon, who published this collection. With that said, on a modern OS, you are likely to be running the games in ScummVM anyways, and for this you only need the data files – executable compatibility is not required.įinally, Simon and Simon II employ minimum installs, expecting to access the data files directly on the disk if you are not going to be using ScummVM, you may want to run from a CD image, for convenience and preservation purposes. I confirmed that all games indeed run well on Windows XP, but have not tried working out compatibility with more modern operating systems. Once installed, they can be run from the same setup front-end, but uninstallation must be done manually. The cream of the crop of this edition, though, is the inclusion of both Simon bonus games from 1998 – the Pinball and the Puzzle Pack (complete with Swampy Adventures, Jumble, NoPatience solitaire collection and the Demon In My Pocket virtual “tamagotchi”).Īll 4 games can be installed through the same setup program (incorrectly referred to as D:\Menu.exe on the CD itself the actual filename is EnglishSetup.exe). In that sense they should be identical to the individual releases that were sold in DVD slim cases with the “XP Compatible” writing. The packaging is more modest – a simple DVD keep case and only a single disk however, in terms of content it has a few important advantages over the first pack.įirst, both Simon and Simon II on this disk have been updated to support every version of Windows from 95 to XP. I could not find an exact release date (oddly, there isn’t even a copyright date), but the directory timestamps on the disk suggest it is from 2005. The second version, which I have, came a few years later. I seem to recall that the DOS versions have also been included in that release, but I cannot confirm, as I don’t own it. The disks say that the games are for Windows 95 / 98. It came in a box with the individual disks for each of the first two games. The first release of the Double Pack was in 2002, riding on the rekindled interest in the series with Simon the Sorcerer 3D appearing on the shelves. Simon the Sorcerer II: The Lion, The Wizard and The Wardrobe.Simon the Sorcerer Double Pack: Twice the Adventure Games Included Format: DVD case, standard, 19 ⨉ 13.5 ⨉ 1.5 cm.Released: 2005 (re-release of a 2002 collection with the same name).ScummVM would be better than nothing if I could get it working. The other programs I tried tell me the ISO I've mounted is not a DOS disk when I try to access it through the shell. Does anyone know if they can be made to work with an ISO mounted with a separate program? Disk Image mounts the ISO successfully but I get the "Inquire of vice unit 3 failed" error through the IDEfix97 CD32 emulator. The problem is, CD32 emulators, such as the one on the surf squirrel installation disk and IDEfix97, don't seem to work with ISOs as standard. Failing that perhaps I could mount the disk image. I could write the installation disk image to a floppy disk (assuming I've got one that still works!) and install the emulator (assuming the installer is compatible with an external floppy disk drive). The installation disk has a CD32 emulator on it, but my Amiga 1200 currently has no internal floppy disk drive.
I own a surf squirrel external CD-ROM drive.

I assume that would only run a few point and click adventure games? I like the idea of a full CD32 emulator.
